Mental Health First Aid training


Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is aimed at anyone aged 16 and up who wants to be able to recognize that someone is struggling and know how to respond. It covers:

  • Signs and symptoms of mental illness

  • Signs and symptoms of substance use

  • How to interact with a person in crisis

  • How to connect the person with help

  • How to administer naloxone (aka Narcan) in the event of an opioid overdose

Participants will learn the 5-step ALGEE action plan:

  1. Assess for risk of suicide

  2. Listen nonjudgmentally

  3. Give reassurance and information

  4. Encourage appropriate professional help

  5. Encourage self-help and other support strategies

The $25 cost covers the training materials. When you register, you will be sent digital materials to do as pre-work on your own prior to the training date. The pre-work takes about 2 hours. On Wednesday, November 9th there will be a live training online from 9am-2pm (including lunch break). Participants will receive a certificate following the training which is good for 3 years.
